Description: Blues Brothers, Prison Break, Let’s Go to Prison. What do they have in common? You get one guess and if you are wrong, you will be locked up!

All those mentioned above were filmed at the Old Joliet Prison. It actually has hosted quite a few movies and tv shows beyond the listed above. It has sat defunct since 2002 due to budget cuts and an aging structure.

I came here with an ex-gf and a good friend on a nice cold breezy day. Not knowing much, we just walked around the outside while snapping a few photos. In the parking lot, there are info centers talking about the Prison, it’s role in some movies and other Route-66 things. Not much to do besides walk around the perimeter and feel intimated by the high walls and the level of security.

Looking a bit into the Prison for this post, it looks like they are trying to restore it to offer tours for Route-66 travelers. Much better to be a visitor than a resident! If they ever offer tours, I may go back and get some good photos from the inside. I will update this post with said photos, should that happen.
