Description: “FOUR!”

Pekin is quite the odd town. There is quite a bit to do in the ‘recreational’ category but not much else to do in the ‘everything else’ category. Luckily the outdoor stuff almost makes up for the lack of unique restaurants/coffee shops/stores to visit.

Let me ask you this, does saying Putt the Magic Dragon make you think of Puff, the Magic Dragon? If you did, you are not alone. My mind keeps defaulting to calling this place Puff in conversations and recalling memories.

It was a sunny day and my girlfriend and I were on a mini golf kick. It’s only natural we would check out PUTT the Magic Dragon’s Mini Golf course in Pekin. We got to the main park area that Putt is located and I forgot how confusing it is. Maybe I don’t come here enough but I always get turned around trying to find the right way to get where I want to go. After finally figuring out where to park, we paid our admission, grabbed our tools for mini golf and made our way to Hole 1.

We were a bit of a competitive couple, so we made a bet on the loser buying ice cream. It was painfully obvious that I was out-skilled in this simple game. As we worked our way through the 18 holes, it was obvious that I was going to pony up for ice cream on our way home. I did manage to catch up at the end but still had to foot the bill for ice cream.

It’s kind of hard to describe a mini golf course especially after 4 years. It has 18 holes. There is some really cool course decorations/props that pay homage to the local area. I’m not fluent on the history of Pekin but it seems like coal mining was a thing as there was mine carts and other things from that era scattered throughout the course. There was a water tower which you can see in the photo above. At some point, one of the holes is located in a train car. How often do you get to go in a train car? How often do you get to play a hole of mini golf in a train car? Never! How unique is that!

Also, there is a concession stand here. I believe its also where you pay your admission fee. So, if you get thirsty or hungry, they offer snacks and drinks for some hungry bellies and thirsty throats.

If you have the chance to check it out, swing by Putt the Magic Dragon for a fun game of mini golf. If not, why not check to see if there are any local ones near you.
