Description: “Come one, come all! Come see the great attraction that is Pekin, IL!” Wait, no, that’s not right. *clears throat* “COME ONE, COME ALL! Come see the greatest attraction that Pekin has to offer! THE WORLD’S GREATEST SUNDIAL!”

If you’ve never been to Pekin, it’s a bit of an odd city. It’s got some cool places to see in the vicinity of this here World’s Greatest Sundial. Some of the nice outdoors areas to visit: Coal Miner’s Park, Pekin Lagoon, Mineral Springs Park, and Putt the Magic Dragon.

My father and I swung by here after an afternoon of fishing at the Lagoon. The Sundial itself is located in a very weird location, adjacent from the lagoon/Mineral Springs Park. You have to cross a fairly busy street to get to it from the lagoon. I didn’t observe any nearby parking, but I am also not too familiar with the area to be certain. Be careful if you do have to cross the busy street to get to it.

The Sundial was pretty awesome. I don’t remember too many specifics about it, unfortunately. I do remember being amazed at how cool everything was and how well it was presented. The information plaques posted were a great read. Sadly, I didn’t take too many photos worth posting, as it’s hard to encapsulate the sundial in a few photos, due to the layout of it.

So, is it the World’s Greatest Sundial? Subjectively, yes, since it’s the only sundial I have ever visited and will probably visit. If I do visit any other sundials, will I hold them to the standard set by this one? You dang right I will. I mean, it’s the Greatest Sundial, ever.

I really do wish I had more to say about it, because it is worth the 10 minute stop if you are in the area. You could easily make an enjoyable afternoon out of the things to do in the area…

“And that folks, is the WORLD’S GREATEST SUNDIAL! Thank you for visiting and have a good day!”
